Romanian business leaders estimate a drop in activity and the number of construction workers in January, but also a moderate price increase, according to data released Wednesday by the National Institute of statistics (INS).

The short term shows managers' perceptions of the dynamics of a phenomenon, which should not be confused with the rate of increase or decrease of a statistical indicator. The short-term balance is obtained as a difference between the percentage of executives who chose the positive variant of the phenomenon and the percentage of those who indicated the negative variant, writes News.ro.

In construction, managers estimate a decrease in production volume for the next three months (short-term balance -23%).

The executives also estimate a decrease in the number of employees (short-term balance -16%). With regard to construction prices, moderate growth is expected (short-term balance + 10%).

In the manufacturing industry, managers expect a relatively stable volume of production over the next three months (short-term balance + 1%).

"A growth trend (short-term balance + 24%) will be recorded for the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceuticals, while for the manufacture of tobacco products, there will be a sharp decrease (short-term balance -69%), "the statement said.

With regard to the number of employees, relative stability is estimated, the short-term balance being -2% per total of manufacturing. For industrial goods, moderate growth is forecast for the next three months (short-term balance + 9%).

In the retail sector, managers expect for the next three months a relative trend of stability of economic activity (short-term balance + 5%).

The volume of product orders by business units will grow moderately (short-term balance + 7%). Employers expect a moderate increase in the number of employees over the next three months (short-term balance + 15%).

For the next period, business leaders estimate moderate retail prices (short-term balance + 13%).

According to management estimates, the turnover in the service area will have relative stability over the next three months (short-term balance + 3%).

"In the services sector, the relative stability of the number of employees is estimated (short-term balance 0%.) According to officials, the prices of sales or billing services will have a tendency to stability (short-term balance + 5%), "says the press release.
