The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) announces that it will place in Ashford, United Kingdom, a monument dedicated to Queen Mary, emblematic figure of the history of Romania, as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the Great Union.

On the occasion of the unveiling of the statue on December 12, a ceremony will be held with the president of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Liliana Ţuroiu, representatives of the Romanian Embassy in London and houses Royals of the sea. Britain and Romania, Gerry Clarkson CBE, chairman of Ashford Local Council, senior Romanian and British officials.

The statue will be a symbol of historical, symbolic and aesthetic value to the city, since Queen Mary was born on October 29, 1875 at Eastwell Manor, a former noble estate located in the immediate vicinity of the city.

The sculptor Valentin Duicu, a graduate of the National University of Arts of Bucharest, won the competition launched this summer by ICR this summer in the city of Eastwell Manor.

Built in bronze and 2.2 meters high, the statue will be located in Elwick Square, a space of high visibility in the middle of a new municipal center, near the historic district and Victoria Park, the main green area of ​​the city. bears the names of Queen Mary's grandparents. Thanks to its central location, the statue promises to become, over time, one of the landmarks of Ashford, a vibrant and expanding community.

The location of the statue is an initiative of the Romanian Cultural Institute, carried out with the support of the Romanian Government as part of the Centennial Program and in partnership with the local council of Ashford.
