UEFA has opened a disciplinary procedure against AEK Athens and Ajax Amsterdam after the incident in Tuesday's Champions League match in the capital of Greece.
The Greek group will have to count after its supporters have thrown various objects on the ground, including firecrackers, blocked stairs, banners with intriguing messages and entered the field. The Dutch will have to react after fans of "lancets" have thrown objects and used pyrotechnic devices, according to Agerpres.
Eleven people were easily injured during violent incidents that took place outside the Olympic Stadium in Athens, between supporters of both groups. The spectators threw in the bleachers before the start of the match, with the intervention of police forces to separate the two camps.
"Eleven people reported being hospitalized" with minor injuries, said a police press officer.
According to an AFP photographer on site, at least three of Ajax's supporters were injured after being hit by cops. The Greek news website Proto Thema points out that Dutch fans have also caused incidents in central Athens before the match, without recording injuries.
Ajax Amsterdam beat AEK Athens 2-0 with double Dusan Tadic (68 – punishment and 72). The Dutch have qualified for the first time in the Champions League for the 2005-2006 season.
