American actor Sylvester Stallone has announced that one of his famous characters, Rocky Balboa, the pugilist that he has starred in eight films for 40 years, is retiring, according to huffingtonpost.com.
"Although my soul breaks, unfortunately everything goes … and I finish," Stallone wrote in a message posted on his account on the Instagram online network.
"It was a supreme privilege to be able to create and play this deep character", Writes Stallone.
"You keep blowing with your fist! I love you, good and generous people, and Rocky like you too", added the star.
Still, Stallone, 72, left a small door open. So, next to a video he has published, he writes the message, "This is probably my last fight."
In the clip, standing near a fire made in a metal shelf, the last day of filming "Creed II," the eighth part of the Rocky franchise, Stallone said that he thought the series should end with the feature film "Rocky Balboa" in 2006. But actor Michael B. Jordan has managed to revive the franchise with Creed and Creed II. In these last two films, Stallone plays the role of the Jordanian coach, Adonis Creed, son of his rival, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) of his original 1976 film, Rocky.
"I could not have been happier taking a step back because my story had already been told. This was a new world that opened to the public with this generation," said Stallone, who then told Jordan "Now you have to wear the cloak", raising an arm as if it were a champion.
The Hollywood star, nominated three times at the Oscars, became famous in the late 1970s with the role of Rocky Balboa's Rocky Balboa, and then built a successful career with film scores like John Rambo, a veteran of the Vietnam War in the Rambo franchise and a daring mercenary in the franchise movies "The Expendables". In the 1980s, "Sly", as it is called in the press, was one of the highest paid Hollywood actors.
The latest film of the franchise "Rocky", "Creed II", which also features Romanian Florian Munteanu, was released on November 21st.
