Omar Zouhri, a Briton born in Morocco, died a few weeks after contracting the disease in Mehdya, Morocco.

When he first presented his symptoms, the man went to the city hospital where he lived and told the doctors that a doctor died in Morocco after being bitten by a cat, the same animal that threw his teeth and in his hand.

The doctors gave him a preventive injection and sent him home telling him that he was making fun of rabies. Three weeks later, he again presented to the doctor with pain in his hands and he recommended it with an anti-itch cream.

Three weeks later, the man died in the hospital and the doctors confirmed that the death

The husband's wife said the doctors told him that he was paranoid and that he was repeatedly assured that he was not suffering from rabies.

The victim's nephew, Nabil Jellal, was next to him when he passed away and said that all he asked was that his relatives take care of his wife and children. "He could not move, he was sedated, but he was still fighting and trying to get up," he said. "He spoke a little, some of his last words were to protect his family."

Dr. Tina Kenny, Medical Director of the NHS Trust at Buckinghamshire Healthcare, confirmed that the man had died at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. She said that an internal investigation had been opened because "rabies deaths are so rare in this country".

Dr. Kenny urged the family to get in touch with the hospital if she "is worried about the care that this man has received at the hospital".

Rabies is not found in wild or domestic animals in the UK and only five people were infected between 2000 and 2017 after "animal shows abroad".
