British filmmaker and producer Gerard Butler was hospitalized in a private medical center in Santo Domingo. He was suffering from a simple diverticulum, confirmed Wednesday to EFE a medical source that he did not want to be identified, writes Agerpres.
The 49-year-old actor was admitted to the clinic on Monday, Nov. 26, accusing the abdominal pain that he suffered for more than 72 hours. He therefore decided to be admitted for analysis.
According to the source, the doctors who took care of him underwent a TMR exam, suspecting that it was an appendicitis, but the results showed that the actor was suffering from diverticulitis. It is a painful condition that develops when the diverticulum (like a pocket) that forms in the lining of the colon becomes inflamed or infected.
Most of the time, diverticulitis can be treated by diet changes and in the case of infection, by antibiotic treatment.
The Scottish actor, protagonist of the musical drama "The Phantom of the Opera" or the 300-year-old historical film, which made it known to the world, is in a stable situation under the care from Dr. Fernando Contreras.
On his Twitter account, Butler has published several videos that he has seen working in various charities in Haiti on the border with the Dominican Republic, alongside the international organization Mary Meals.
"I am happy to be in Haiti next to @MarysMeals by visiting schools to see the wonderful work that she is doing (…) @MarysMeals provides a meal to all the kids in their school. Is a simple idea that works well ", says the actor in one of his tweets.
