Ukraine announced Thursday the first pass of a nuclear reactor exclusively to US fuel instead of Russian fuel, AFP informs. Energoatom, operator of four Ukrainian nuclear power plants, said that it was reactor No. 3 of the Iujnoukrainsk power plant in the south of the country and that the fissile material came from the Westinghouse group at United States, subsidiary of the Japanese group Toshiba . Westinghouse has been supplying nuclear fuel to Ukraine since 2005, but so far it has been used alongside Russia in the TVEL monopoly.
