Iohannis promulgated the law of the highway

President Klaus Iohannis today organized a public ceremony during which he promulgated the law "Highway of the Union", which will link Târgu Mureş, Neamţ, Iaşi and Ungheni.
President Klaus Iohannis said that the Romanian government now had the obligation to create this highway connecting two historic regions – Moldova and Transylvania – and warned that the opposite meant breaking the law.
"I warn the government that in the 2019 budget must be allocated funds for the Unirii Highway. We must not forget that there is also the declared support of the EU to this project. I will carefully monitor the government's efforts, "Klaus Iohannis said.
The President stressed that this law reinforces the obligation the Romanian state to build a highway connecting the two historic provinces.
"I chose to hold a public ceremony in a place full of symbols, the union hall of Cotroceni, in order to convey a clear message: 100 years after the union, the governors have the OBLIGATION to make the real union"Iohannis said.
According to the head of state, there was a strong agenda on the theme of the "Moldovan highway" that came out of exasperation, given that Moldova's development potential has declined significantly .
"Moldova is the only historic region without a highway, although this topic has been debated for eleven years. Indolence and the lover of some politicians turned into a national security issue. It is regrettable that a law is necessary, "explained the president.
Klaus Iohannis said that a high-speed road would make a substantial contribution to reducing disparities between regions.
"As long as there will be no highway, we will not have prosperity in this important European region that is Moldova." The project is of particular strategic importance and contributes to the process of European integration of the Republic of Moldova. the highway means that the government is breaking the law, "said the head of state.
The President organized the public ceremony of promulgation of the law approving the investment objective related to the Iasi-Târgu Mureş highway, also called "Unirii highway", from 17:00 in the Unirii room of the Cotroceni Palace.
The Unirii highway will start at the border with the Republic of Moldova via a new bridge over the Prut river and will end with a connection with the A3 Brasov – Borş highway, near Targu Mures.
The plenary assembly of the Chamber of Deputies on November 7 passed the bill approving the realization of the investment objective of the Iasi-Targu Mures motorway. The project must be funded from the state budget by the budget of the Ministry of Transport.
"The investment objective of the Union Highway is funded by the state budget, by the budget of the Ministry of Transport, by external credits and by European non-refundable funds and / or through a public / private partnership Each annual budget law, during project implementation, will be earmarked for this purpose Objective budgetary appropriations according to the financing needs communicated by the Ministry of Transport ", says the bill.
The Ministry of Transport is required, within 30 days of the publication of the law in the Official Journal, to begin the construction of the highway.
Corina Cretu defeated the government because she refuses to create the Union's road with EU fossils. The European Commissioner recalled that she was willing to finance feasibility studies and that the construction of the Târgu Mureş-Iaşi-Ungheni motorway is gradually being implemented, underlining that a request from the Romanian authorities was necessary for this purpose.
