A retreat that triggered a tsunami in the FCA. The position of Sergio Marchionne was taken over by Mike Manley – who responded to the fates of the Jeep.
Mike Manley, a 54-year-old Englishman, has had the great success that Jeep has made in recent years. Manley joined the British Chrysler Division in 2000, when the American company was part of Daimler. He was named to the Jeep after Fiat acquired the American group in 2009. He managed to turn the Jeep from an American legend into a silver factory. FCA is valued at around $ 30 billion, but analysts say Jeep alone can reach that value.
Manley was favored for FCA's CEO position, even though two other Fiat Chrysler heavyweight executives wanted this position – Richard Palmer and Alfredo Altavilla – who led FCA's operations in Europe, the Middle East and in Africa.
Sergio Marchionne also stepped down as CEO of Ferrari, his position being already occupied by Louis Carey Camilleri, a former director of Philip Morris International, a character who has been instrumental in the strategic partnership between the manufacturer of Formula 1 Ferrari and Marlboro cigarettes
