In the message sent Thursday, forum members drew attention to the importance of taking the presidency of the European Council, which "involves an unprecedented national effort within the European Union for next six months ", and in this context, the unification of Romania in 1918 should become a milestone. for contemporaries, according to News.ro.

"This year's National Day of Romania has a special meaning and a particular emotional charge: Romanians commemorate a century after the end of the" Great War ", which claimed the lives of millions of people and regrettable suffering, while celebrating the end of the process of formation of modern Romania into a unitary national state the other.

The feast of the Great Union is a good opportunity to remember the greatness of this generation of statesmen and intellectuals who led the nation to unite all Romanians and who displayed admirable cohesion for the public good. At the same time, the last century, rich in teachings, compels us to think about the present and the future.

The Romanian Academy, which has managed to achieve, from an institutional point of view, the coagulation of the cultural elite in all the historical provinces of Romania since 1866, more than half a century before the Great Union, and who has therefore acquired the vocation of Creator Guardian of the unity of this people, insists that, in these solemn moments, all the factors of responsibility in Romania assume the mission entrusted to them by the Romanians and ensure the good management of the national building, created with so many sacrifices.

Romania completed in 1918, confirmed internationally in 1919-1920 and reconfirmed – with regrettable territorial changes and very difficult historical conditions for all central and eastern Europe – at the 1946-1947 Paris Peace Conference, n & # 39; 39 is not a given. but it is a geopolitical and spiritual reality that must be managed, prepared, protected, organized and conducted continuously with responsibility, professionalism and dignity, in order to participate actively in the dialogue between states.

The takeover of the Romanian presidency of the European Council by Romania on 1 January 2019 places our country at the forefront of the European Union and implies an unprecedented national effort within the European Union to the next six months. In this context, the admirable unity of the Romanians found in history at the end of the "Great War" must be more than a memory and a celebration, it must become an example and a reference for us, the contemporaries, becoming the bond that unites the personalities of 1918, they honored their historic duty. The "duty of our life" (Vasile Pârvan) obliges us to act in a conscious and coordinated way for the renewal of Romania and for its preparation for the affirmation and development of the twenty-first century.
