The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Liviu Dragnea, on Wednesday called for unity and the end of the "War between Romanians and Romanians" in his speech to Parliament on the centennial celebration.
He said that should not happen again "What happened recently in the European Parliament when they were Romanians who voted against Romania."
Dragnea pointed out that the 100th anniversary of the Great Union was the biggest party in Romania and that politicians have a duty to continue this process and to strengthen Romania's position in the European Union and the European Union. NATO – the most important achievement of the last century.
"I think it is our duty to continue this process of strengthening the position of our country within the EU and NATO. We have clear goals: adopt the euro, join the Schengen area. (…) We must also ensure an active role for Romania within NATO, in order to guarantee strong security and stable relations. All these objectives are major issues for Romania and we politicians have a duty to behave like real Romanians. We are in a permanent competition, it is natural that democracy works, that we criticize, that we attack and that, unfortunately, we sometimes go too far. I think, however, that in Romania, in order to achieve its major goals, we must be first and foremost Romanians, be politicians, political parties, but be patriotic vis-à-vis Romania.
Let us be first patriotic when we are interested in the major interests of our country. Let's be true Romanians, united in the promotion of our nation. Let's be Romanian before voting in Europe. (…) Do not repeat what happened recently when the Romanians were Romanians who voted against Romania. We can not in any way justify that, it is the strongest expression of our division "said Dragnea.
He invited all politicians to develop a new strategy, stressing that they could be "broken one by one" separately.
"We must stop this war between the Romanians and the Romanians we have been leading for too long outside the country and in the interior of the country. I assure you that this is not what all those who voted for us want. Like you, I stay in my country, I love Romania, and my colleagues and I are ready to work with everyone in the interest of the nation. I am convinced that many people think the same way in all political groups. And I invite everyone to build together a strategy for this country, I invite everyone to build a new political strategy, a Romanian strategy to achieve the major goals of Romania.
Separately we can be broken one by one, this happened in our history, together we can be an unstoppable force. Together, we can build a strong Romania in Europe in the world to consolidate the Great Union in 100 years, so for all centuries to come "said Dragnea.
