British scientists have discovered that mannose slows the growth of the tumor and could be used in the future for the treatment of cancer, reports The Indepedent.
The study showed that the high glycemic appetite of tumors, which promotes their growth, can be used to their disadvantage by the administration of this type of sugar, mannose, which can not be treated also easy.
Clinical trials in guinea pigs with pancreatic, lung or skin tumors have shown that mannose significantly slows its growth without other side effects.
Not only did the tumors not grow, but they were even reduced, thus increasing life expectancy. At the same time, guinea pigs received the drug called doxorubicin.
For the moment, we simply hope that the effects will be similar to those of the man. Soon, however, will begin clinical tests on humans, when they will determine and what is the optimal amount of mannose, so that healthy cells are not affected.
It is hoped that chemotherapy treatments will be halved by the introduction of manic treatment.
