The production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe at the Dingolfing factory was launched. The new model is built from a mix of materials including steel, plastic, aluminum and carbon fiber. In addition to the front and rear support structures of the car, other components such as the roof, the doors, the hood and the front bumper of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe are made of aluminum.

For the first time in the production of a BMW model, the roof is available in carbon fiber reinforced plastic. This solution has been reserved until now for BMW models M.

BMW Group in Dingolfing is using more and more wearables. These mobile cellular computing technologies support staff in various operations. In addition to the ProGlove smart gloves, an "exotic" alarm will use, for example, brass vibrations from a smartwatch to alert staff when a car with non-standard equipment is recorded and requires special attention.

Virtual reality glasses were used for the first time in the preparation of assembly personnel: the specific assembly processes of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe were filmed and watched by employees at through VR glasses. This allows them to become familiar with the new model and the right equipment before the start of production.

The BMW 840d xDrive Coupe is based on a diesel engine offering superior traction and reduced fuel consumption. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line diesel engine delivers a maximum output of 320 hp and a maximum torque of 680 Nm.
