For the first time in Romania, a political party has drawn up its list of candidates for the European elections by online voting of its members, and not by behind-the-scenes arrangements and management decisions. This is USR, which is also the first party to announce its candidates next year.

The decision was made after two months of internal campaign and at the end of a week during which party members could vote online favorably. The ballot boxes closed at 12 o'clock on Thursday.

"The experience of the two months of the campaign ends with a team of people who have solutions to improve Romania in Europe and prepare for next year's campaign, when they ask for your voice and your confidence .

We are the first party in Romania to have chosen candidates in a transparent manner, based on the vote of all members. Because it's in the USR family: on meritocracy, on competence and, above all, on democracy"says USR's Facebook page.

President Dan Barna said 5,043 USR members had participated in the vote, accounting for 82% of the total.

"I am very proud of our candidates, who took on this internal struggle and exposure to the judgment of their party colleagues, which made them better politicians.

This is the list we will rely on and we will rely on the signatures we collect from citizens, the 200,000 signatures needed, "said Dan Barna, referring to the legislation governing elections.

"Such lists are established in the other parties in the evening, in offices based on agreements," he said.

The USR leader said that he was surrounded by the press conference of those who won a candidate seat and those who did not win the internal battle. "This shows that the party goes further, is united and has experienced another electoral process and that from 2020 we will play an important role in the governance of Romania."

Asked about the score he hopes to bring to the USR in the European Parliament, Dan Barna has shown himself optimistic.

"We have a permanent survey, we try to see what are the new trends, we give important reasons for optimism, we are talking about anyway a 2 digit score." When I applied to Sibiu to become a deputy, I said that the USR would do business in Sibiu 14%, the USR made 14.1%, so when I'm announcing the percentage, it will be the percentage of USR, "concluded Barna.

Number 1 on the list, Cristian Ghinea, said the USR will show that it is "a big party capable of changing Romania." Romanians also want a country and this will be our message for next year: a country like that".

A first in Romanian politics

The names of the dozens of people willing to occupy a place on the USR list in the European Parliament and their CVs have been published on the special page dedicated to the event, and last Thursday was given Start the vote, with more than 5,300 party members invited to choose their favorite person.

"The only criterion, the vote, nobody intervenes with the pen," said USR deputy Catalin Drula.

The other parties, superior or inferior, have not yet established the list of candidates for the European Parliament and have not made public the criteria on which decisions will be taken.

at PSD The most difficult and decisive word will be President Liviu Dragnea, as in the case of government reshuffles. And in NLP there are intense negotiations, various names of potential candidates being put on the market, from Crin Antonescu and Vasile Blaga to Gheorghe Falca or Alina Gorghiu, but it is not known who, how and when will establish the final list of candidates Liberals in elections next year.

It is well known that one of the basic criteria taken into account by older parties is the candidate's ability to dispose of his own money for the election campaign. This criterion has repeatedly led to controversial names on the lists of major parties and made some personalities unable to defend themselves, internal conflicts degenerating into scandal and resigning several times with resignation.

The policy otherwise
We often say, "Everyone is the same, who can I vote for?" But what do we want, specifically our politicians? And are they all the same? We propose, under the title "Politics differently," to find politicians who try or do things differently.

What do we want from "other politicians"? Competence, fairness, responsibility, awareness of being at the service of the citizen. We try to capture gestures, attitudes that could make a difference.

We invite you to tell us how the politician you actually vote for and the people and actions that give you hope and confidence – politicians from your city who will represent the European Parliament or at the national level.
