World Day against HIV / AIDS
Slogan: STOP AIDS! HIV INFORMATION!
Purpose of the campaign: Raising awareness among the population, and particularly vulnerable groups, on how to transmit, prevent, test and treat HIV / AIDS and promote healthy behaviors related to their own sexual life.
Objectives of the campaign:
• unconditional access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and social support;
• reduce the number of people infected with HIV;
• Inform and educate the population, especially at-risk HIV / AIDS groups, to combat stigma and discrimination related to HIV / AIDS.
In 2017, around the world, 36.9 million people were infected with HIV, including 35 million adults and 1.8 million children. About 75% of those infected knew that they had HIV / AIDS. In 2017, there were 1.8 million new HIV infections (including 1.6 million adults and 180,000 children under the age of 15). Of this number, 21.7 million people received antiretroviral treatment. A total of 940,000 people died of AIDS-related illnesses.
In Romania, according to the World Health Organization, in July 2018, 16,000 people were infected with HIV (the prevalence of infection was 0.1%). As of 31 December 2017, the HIV / AIDS in-patient monitoring and evaluation unit for inpatients in Romania reported 7,393 HIV-positive cases and 15,587 AIDS cases, of which 196 were under 15 years of age and 14 years old. 642 were over 20 years old. In 2017, 12,447 cases received antiretroviral treatment, which covered 54% of all HIV-positive people. In 2017, the number of new HIV / AIDS cases decreased compared to 2010 (from 730 to 660).
In this context, DSP Suceava, in partnership with the Red Ribbon Fălticeni Association, the National Union of Organizations of People affected by HIV / AIDS, the local public administration, through the intermediary School medical assistance, family doctor's offices, school inspectorate Suceava County, Suceava offers to launch an information-education-communication campaign aimed at: sensitizing the population in general and in particular vulnerable groups to the means of transmitting, preventing, testing and treating HIV / AIDS and promoting healthy sexual life behaviors; disseminate information on HIV / AIDS, especially among young people; increase the number of people adopting HIV / AIDS prevention behavior.
Proposed activities:
• Discussion with the participation of authorities, non-governmental organizations, media, student volunteers and other stakeholders on the theme "Stop AIDS". Learn about HIV! "- December 5, 2018, at 10:00, in the DSP Suceava conference room
• Information activities – education – communication in county schools, distribution of promotional materials containing educational messages on HIV / AIDS; information, education, communication with the media (print, radio and television, Internet, website, social media).
