Recently announced choice by President-elect Biden for White House chief of staff raises eyebrows on a 2014 tweet that the election is “rigged”, though he responded to an article on the advantage tenure and not electoral fraud.
Ronald Klain, a longtime Biden collaborator, became the first candidate announced by the Biden-Harris transition team on Wednesday night. The Democratic agent previously worked as a senior advisor to the Biden-Harris campaign and served as chief of staff to the former vice president in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2011.
However, an old tweet written by Klain seems to come back to haunt him.

In 2014, Vox published an article based on a finding of a Rasmussen poll with the headline “68% of Americans Think Elections Are Rigged.”
Vox shared the report on Twitter, which prompted a reaction from Biden’s ally.
“@voxdotcom It’s because they are,” Klain replied. The Tweet was still online Thursday morning.
The Vox article Klain was responding to at the time was about gerrymandering and incumbent re-election rates and said that “Americans think the election is rigged in favor of incumbents. And they’re fundamentally right.”
Wrote Vox’s Ezra Klein: “The problem here is not fraud. In elections, as in so many other things, scandal is what is legal.
Klein continued, “The incumbents have a voice in gerrymandering – which means politicians, in a reversal of the normal rules of democracy, can choose their constituents.”
The tweet went viral on Wednesday night among criticism of Biden, particularly amid President Trump’s ongoing legal battles challenging presidential election results in several states.
Fox News asked transition Biden for comment on Klain’s tweet.
One critic juxtaposed Klain’s 2014 tweet with President Trump’s on Tuesday which exclaimed: “People will not accept this rigged election!” a slapped Twitter tweet with a warning tag that read: “This allegation of electoral fraud is disputed.”
“Hello Twitter, I have a complaint about voter fraud that I want to challenge,” tweeted Logan Hall of the Daily Caller.
Klain didn’t address the tweet himself, but he did. retweet SiriusXM correspondent Olivier Knox, who reacted to a screenshot of the tweet shared by the Trump campaign saying that the Vox article Klain replied to was about “the incumbent’s advantage.” He also expressed his gratitude on Twitter to those who congratulated him on Wednesday night.

Klain was considered one of the favorites for Biden’s role as chief of staff due to his long working relationship with the president-elect. He advised Biden in his previous presidential elections in 1988 and 2008.
