For Carla Binder, eccentricity is essential.
She hopes her customers will have the same appreciation for the quirkiness she is trying to create in her new store, Taking Deeper Roots.
Located at 140 Edgemont Ave. in Palmerton, Taking Deeper Roots offers an eclectic mix of interior design ranging from handmade to vintage to reuse.
Binder – who recently completed a groundbreaking week – at her business – said she plans to offer interior design consultations soon.
“Taking Deeper Roots is my new art and design studio, whose main goal is to inspire the growth of individual style,” said Binder.
Binder has well-established “roots” in Palmerton herself, as for 28 years she was the owner of Creative Framing by Carla.
She has a formal education and a degree in architectural technology and has completed the design program at Northampton Community College.
Binder’s journey has come full circle, as she is accompanied by her daughter, Sarah, and their shared passion for art and design.
“People have wondered why I chose this particular name for my business, and I like to share the reason,” she said. “As we all know, life has a funny way of turning things around and throwing things in front of you when you least expect it.”
Binder explained his inspiration for the new venture.
“After my breast cancer diagnosis in 2017, the first artwork I created was an illustration for a pin based on Dolly Parton’s quote ‘Storms make trees take deeper roots’? ” she said. “I love the inspiration that gives me, and as I travel along this new path, I am“ Taking Deeper Roots ”.
Binder said she was able to gain a better perspective on things in the short time since it closed.
“I was closed for over a year and a half, so right now I feel like I’m starting over, starting over from scratch,” she said. “It has been incredible; I had such a feeling of peace.
Binder said his business approach matched his particular needs.
“I love people, I love being able to talk to people,” she said. “I hope to make as many people as possible aware of this. “
Binder explained that his goal is an interior design concept, as well as working on creating his yard as “a little shrine.”
“I would like to share it with my clients where they can come and find original things that I have made, come and sit and enjoy,” she said.
“I hope they find things they love for their home and have a relaxing time.”
Starting next week, the business is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first and third Saturday and Sunday from May to October. . It is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November to April.
