After months of speculation about when she would give birth, on her sex and on her long-awaited name, Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, speaking at St George's Hall in Windsor Castle, revealed to the world their little boy named, against the royal tradition, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Eyes on the new loving parents and their nice boy, no one expected a Rotorua mother's phone to start ringing. But as Shauni James discovered, the mother of two Rotorua has a connection to the new royal.

A mother from Rotorua woke up this morning with a royal surprise, when she discovered that her sons were wearing the names of the new royal baby.

Rebecca Brake has two sons – Archie Brake, 3, and Harrison Roberts-Brake, 12.

Brake laughed as she explained how she had woken about 10 people who had asked her to say "Oh my God, she stole your names" or "Did she ask permission?"

She said that it was like that that she had discovered what the royal baby was calling.

"I thought it was so funny and how improbable it was, and it was unanticipated unexpected names on the part of the royal family."

Brake says Harrison was not at the top of the list when his eldest son was born.

She said that it was supposed to be Flynn, but it did not look like a Flynn. So they asked their midwife what she thought. She replied that Harrison suited her well and they agreed.

The midwife suggested Harrison because she said it was a strong name, Brake said.

Brake said that Archie was a teacher and that she was struggling to find the name of a boy where she did not already know someone who was already using it – up to Archie shows up one day.

She said that many people have mentioned the name Archie in the TV show.

Brake said that she knew she would name her son Archie throughout her pregnancy.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their son's name on their Instagram account, with a black-and-white photograph of Meghan showing the baby to Queen Elizabeth II. At their side were Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, Prince Harry, and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Royals tend to choose traditional names for their offspring. Thus, before the announcement, the bookmakers declared that Baby Sussex's favorites were Spencer, Alexander, James, Philip, Arthur and Albert.

Archie was the 18th male given name in England and Wales in 2017, according to the latest available figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

He has seen a dramatic increase in popularity since 1996, when he was only 192nd.
