In his 15-year career, Dwight Howard has had the privilege of playing with some of the best players who have ever worn sneakers, including Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant and, more recently, James Harden. This season, he hopes to add two more names to this list by signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that currently employs LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
according to Athletic Shams of AthleticHoward likes the idea of helping James and Davis lead the Lakers to a championship next season and is ready to do whatever is necessary to help them achieve this goal:
"From all points of view, Dwight Howard is now motivated and wants to be part of a potential Lakers team. I am told that he is excited about the prospect of joining LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and doing all that is required of him: bounce back, block the shots, defend – all he needs to be part of the contenders to the championship and to finish his career with a title and redeem himself from the season that he spent in Los Angeles "
In theory, Howard is an above-average relief center that could be valuable to the Lakers in the proper role. However, there are serious doubts as to whether the same thing will or will not be true in practice, mainly because this has not been the case in recent years.
Similar to Carmelo Anthony, Howard has a hard time accepting the fact that he is no longer an All-Star player. This attitude has forced him to join four teams over the past four years.
Granted, Howard told Charania that he was willing to put his ego aside in a recent interview, but he has given people a lot of reasons to be skeptical over the years.
Howard is perhaps the most talented center on the market, but some players are more self-aware than he (or have been in the past) and have fewer red flags. Unless these players are not available, Howard should not be the Lakers' first choice.
