This, of course, made fans speculate if Kevin was leaving the series.
Initially, Yellowstone Fans were concerned that Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes, who play Beth and Kayce Dutton, would be struck off the show after the Season 3 finale bombshell. But now all eyes are on Dutton’s Patriarch, played by Kevin Costner.
The final moments of the Season 3 finale, which aired last August, show the three Duttons under attack: A bomb went off in Beth’s office, gunmen stormed Kayce’s office, and John was shot while helping someone on the side of the road. The episode ended without any conclusion, causing fans to fear that some or all of the Duttons would not make it out alive. Despite speculation, it seemed unlikely that any (or all) of these three characters would be killed out of the series, especially since it appears the Duttons are just getting started.
In a recent interview on Have a nice day in New York, Kevin answered the question, admitting he couldn’t reveal John Dutton’s fate: “I can’t say. There’s an ending you’re going to see, I hope it’s powerful for you.” Continuing, he explained that he enjoys “doing things and being a part of things that have a dramatic arc for them”. His advice to Yellowstone fans: “Just try to enjoy it until the end if you can.”
This statement didn’t really help put fans at ease. Soon after, the internet erupted with even more speculation that Kevin was leaving the show. Some, like this Twitter user, even said they heard a rumor that he may have been fired from Yellowstone. In the weeks leading up to this interview, Gossip Cop reports that there were rumors the actor was upset that he had to uproot his family in Montana to film the show’s fourth season. Kevin’s spokesperson later confirmed to Gossip Cop whose actor is “very proud Yellowstone”, And there is no truth to these rumors.
Even when Good Housekeeping caught up with Kevin in the middle of Yellowstone season 3, he confirmed he was ready to get down to business on season four. He even shared a photo of himself on Instagram while filming Season 4 in October.
He did, however, mention that the coming season would be more difficult for him as he would be away from his family for longer periods. “It puts me away from home. I come home every moment, ”he told us. “But this year we’re shooting exclusively in Montana, which makes coming home almost impossible.”
But still, we think Yellowstone fans can rest assured that Kevin is here to stay! Let’s just hope John Dutton gets through all six seasons of the show.
