As the regular season begins this week, Seahawks players voted for team captains. For the second consecutive year, Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner and Neiko Thorpe will all hold this title in 2019.

"These guys are incredible leaders for us," said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. "Nice to have them."

Wagner Carroll said: "He's a great leader and it's an obvious type, it's like a no-brainer. He is the voice, he is the action, he is everything. "

Carroll went on to say that these same characteristics applied to Wilson and added, "He is great at being responsible for the programs. He calls each piece, he took every shot forever, there he is. These two guys care so much about what's going on around them, people they can help and who they can talk to. They are incredible leaders. "

Commenting on Thorpe, Carroll said, "Neiko Thorpe has not been on the minds of the special teams for a number of years and it's great that guys recognize him again. He is very present in our room and with our guys.

Wilson was elected offensive captain for the seventh consecutive season, not having captained him during his rookie year. Wagner is the defense captain for the third year in a row – he shared that honor with Kam Chancellor in 2017 – and for the fourth time in the last five years. Thorpe was elected captain of the special teams for the second time after sharing that honor with Sebastian Janikowski a year ago.

"It means a lot," said Wagner. "I'm proud of that. I'm proud to be the best chef I can, trying to be a positive example for the guys. And so that they hold me in high esteem, I am grateful to them. I do not take that for granted. I'm always looking for ways to be better as a leader, but as a man, so I'm delighted to have another year to do it. "

Thorpe, one of the top players on the Seattle squad since his arrival in 2016, said, "That's a lot. I am honored. Every time your peers vote, it's exceptional. It just shows that hard work does not go unnoticed. I am happy that they trust me and I will guide them in the right direction. "
