Sacramento County health officials are advising residents to wear masks indoors regardless of their immunization status, citing concerns about the rapid spread of the Delta COVID-19 variant. The guidelines, which come as Los Angeles County reinstates an indoor mask mandate, do not align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, or state public health guidelines, which say that vaccinated people do not have to wear face coverings.
“Due to the recent increase in the rate of overnight COVID-19 cases of the highly infectious Delta variant, the Sacramento County public health official strongly recommends masking indoors.” , said a press release released on Thursday. “In less than a month, the daily case rate in Sacramento has increased dramatically, from 3.8 on June 20 to 10 on July 14.”
