Just like Google, after experimenting the sales on a $ 1,000 premium Chromebook, Samsung decided to tone down the premium in later versions, and today’s “Galaxy Chromebook 2” is a cheaper follow-up.
Last year’s Galaxy Chromebook featured a 13.3-inch 4K OLED display that made headlines, but this year Samsung hacked and slashed the spec sheet to go down to a lower price. Instead of a 4K OLED, we have a 1080p LCD screen. The laptop is slower, thicker, and heavier than last year, with less storage, fewer cameras, and less RAM. However, all of those cost cuts nearly cut the price in half: it now starts at $ 549.
For the starting $ 549, you get a 13.3-inch 1920 × 1080 (16: 9) LCD touchscreen; 1.9 GHz, 14nm dual-core Intel Celeron 5205U processor; 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM; 64 GB of eMMC storage; and a 45.5 Wh battery.
