Samsung’s browser is now available for its Wear OS smartwatches

Samsung has integrated its Samsung web browser into the new Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch 4 (via 9to5Google). Browsing a watch might not seem like my ideal way to surf the web for a long time, but I could see how it could be useful for small tasks like checking a name or finding a location.

I don’t have a Galaxy Watch 4, so I can’t give you a hands-on experience of how the Samsung internet browser works. But based on 9to5Google test, it looks like Samsung has thought of a few cool tips to make browsing the web on your wrist:

An obvious question about having a web browser on your wrist is how exactly that little circular screen can successfully display full web pages. Samsung’s response is with gestures. A guide will appear when you access your first web page, explaining that swiping diagonally on either side of the screen will allow users to access the corners of a web page. Meanwhile, swiping up reveals options for bookmarks, “zoom mode” and a shortcut to send the web page straight to your connected phone.

This new browser just adds to what you can already get with the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch series, which we thought was pretty good – as long as you’re already using a Samsung phone, that is. It’s worth noting that a browser on a smartwatch isn’t new, however; Samsung also has a browser for its Tizen-based smartwatches, and even the Apple Watch has built-in navigation capabilities (although there’s no dedicated Apple Watch version of Safari).
