It was obvious from the start that Trenton was in pretty good shape when the Trojans spoke up against visiting Lincoln Park in a Downriver League game on Thursday night. In the opening minutes of the first set, it was clear that the Trojans had some big hitters as well as a solid back row and would be very tough to beat.
And that was the case when the Trojans swept the Railsplitters 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-15)
Lincoln Park played hard, made great plays and never gave up, but the Trojans were the strongest team that night.
Two aces from Ella Lucas helped give Trenton a 7-3 lead and then an 11-3 advantage in Game 1. A tip from Aila Johnson made it 13-3, then a Jenna Burns kill gave the Trojans a 19-3 lead. A monster killed by Brianna Thomas – who had quite a few monsters killed – gave Trenton a 20-3 lead.
The Rails wouldn’t go quietly. A tip from Nichole Pinkoson and an ace from Nayeliz Olivo reduced the deficit to 24-9. But a Thomas kill ended the set at 25-9.
In the second set, Trenton started strong. An ace from Lucas gave the home side an 8-1 lead. An Allison Sharp ace of Lincoln Park reduced the lead to 12-7, but a block from Jill Paryaski of Trenton gave Trenton a 14-7 advantage. An Adams Fall victory from Lincoln Park reduced the deficit to 17-8.

Lincoln Park’s Courtney Johnson served the visitors at 21-15, then the Elder delivered an ace to bring it down to 21-17.
But the Trojans regrouped and took the second set 25-19 on an ace from Johnson.
Once again, Trenton took a big lead in Game 3. A kill by Thomas made it 8-2, then a tip from Annika Segedi made it 12-5. A few aces from Molly Edmunds gave the home side a 17-6 lead. A kill from Thomas made it 21-10, an ace from Ella Lucas made it 22-10 and another kill from Thomas gave the hosts a 24-12 lead.
Lincoln Park fought to the end. A nice block from Pinkoson made it 24-13. But the Trojans got the 25-15 victory to complete the sweep.
Next up for the Rails is a home game on Tuesday, October 12 against Wyandotte Roosevelt. Two nights later, Trenton will visit Roosevelt.
