“The best protection we have against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health official. “Vaccines are extremely effective in preventing serious illnesses caused by COVID-19. If you haven’t been vaccinated, do so now. “
While there has been a slight increase in reported breakthrough cases, Wooten said this is expected and these cases usually present with mild symptoms. San Diego County’s case rate as of July 20 was 7.6 cases per 100,000 population – enough to put the county in California’s red level if the color-coded reopening system was still in use. A week earlier, the county reported a case rate of 3.7 cases per 100,000 people.

The county’s goal is to vaccinate 75% of eligible residents aged 12 and over, or 2,101,936 people, with at least one dose.
