San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 2/16/2021

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through February 15, 2021.

The adjusted case rate calculated by the state of San Diego County is currently 22.2 cases per 100,000 population and the region is at the purple level or level 1.
The percentage of positive tests is 6.4%, placing the county at level 2 or red. While the test positivity rate for the county qualifies it for the red level, the state uses the more restrictive metric – in this case, the adjusted case rate – and affects counties at that level. Therefore, the county remains in the purple level or level 1.
The county’s health equity measure, which examines the positivity of testing for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 9.7% and is in the purple level or level 1. This measure does not does not move counties to more restrictive levels, but is necessary to move to a less restrictive level.
The California Department of Public Health assesses counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday February 23.

No new community epidemic was confirmed on February 15.
A community outbreak was confirmed on February 14 in a commercial setting.
Eight community outbreaks were confirmed on February 13: three in distribution warehouses, one in a commercial setting, one in an emergency services setting, one in a food / beverage processing facility, one in a government setting, and one in a social club setting. .
Seven community outbreaks were confirmed on February 12: five at businesses, one at a health care facility and one at a TK-12 school.
In the past seven days (February 9-15), 49 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
The number of community epidemics remains above the trigger by seven or more in seven days.
A community-based outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one setting and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

9,125 tests were reported to the county on February 15 and the percentage of new positive cases was 8%.
The 14-day moving average percentage of positive cases is 5.6%. The target is less than 8.0%.
The daily 7-day test average is 16,071.
People at higher risk of COVID-19 who may or may not have symptoms should be tested. People with symptoms should get tested. Health professionals and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or who live in communities that are severely affected. People who have recently returned from a trip are also invited to get tested.

698 cases were reported to the county on February 15. The region’s total is now 253,641.
12,162 or 4.8% of all cases required hospitalization.
1,555 or 0.6% of all cases and 12.8% of hospitalized cases required admission to an intensive care unit.

Five new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 15. The region’s total is now 3,042.
Two women and three men died between December 20 and January 29.
Of the five deaths reported today, one deceased was 80 or older, two in their 60s and two in their 60s.
All of them had underlying medical conditions.
No new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 14.
Twenty-eight deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 13. Twelve women and 16 men died between December 27 and February 12.
Of the 28 deaths reported that day, 15 people who died were aged 80 or over, eight were 70, four in their sixties and one in their fifties.
Twenty-six had underlying medical conditions and two have a pending medical history.
Thirty deaths from COVID-19 were reported on February 12. Thirteen women and 17 men died between August 14 and February 12.
Of the 30 new deaths reported that day, 16 people who died were 80 or older, three in their sixties, five in their sixties, three in their fifties, two in their forties and one in their thirties.
All of them had underlying medical conditions.
