Here is this week’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through September 21.

Progress of vaccination:

Deaths:

  • 44 new deaths have been reported since the last report on September 15. The region’s total is 4,027.
  • 22 women and 22 men died between July 24 and September 20, 2021.
  • 13 were 80 years or older, four were in their sixties, 14 in their sixties, seven in their fifties, two in their forties, two in their thirties and two in their twenties.
  • 40 had underlying health issues, three had a pending medical history, and one had no health issues.

Cases, case rate and tests:

  • 851 cases of COVID-19 were reported to the county on September 21. The region’s total now stands at 351,134. About half of the cases reported today are from a backlog of reports over the past week due to lab connection issues that have since been resolved.
  • San Diego County’s case rate per 100,000 population is 27.6 overall, 13.0 for those fully vaccinated, and 47.3 for those not fully vaccinated.
  • 23,238 tests were reported to the county on September 21 and the percentage of new positive cases was 3.7%.
  • The 14-day rolling percentage of positive cases among tests is 4.0%.

Community outbreaks:

  • 37 new community outbreaks have been confirmed in the last seven days (September 15 to September 21): 18 in TK-12 elementary schools, four in businesses, four in restaurants / bars, three in daycares / preschools / daycares , two in government facilities, one in college / university, one in construction facility, one in grocery store, one in health care facility, one in restaurant, and one in retail facility.
  • The trigger for community epidemics is greater than seven in a 7-day period.
