San Diego County on Friday reported 2039 new COVID-19 infections and 791 hospitalized coronavirus patients including 216 in intensive care, all records.

The previous high for new infections was 1,859 reported on November 27. Friday was the 24th day in a row that more than 600 new cases were reported and 12th of the last 14, more than 1,000 new cases were reported.
The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency has reported 88,181 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Seven more deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Friday, bringing the death toll to 1,047. Four women and three men, all with underlying health conditions, died between Monday and Thursday. Their ages ranged from the mid-20s to the early 100s.
Another 37 coronavirus patients have been hospitalized, according to Friday’s report.
Of the 696 licensed intensive care beds in San Diego County, 154 are available, or 23%. If the availability of beds in a region’s intensive care unit falls below 15%, a conditional stay-at-home order issued by Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday is triggered.
Southern California’s 10-county region – which includes San Diego County – met that benchmark on Friday and will likely face a lockdown starting at midnight Sunday.
There are 216 intensive care beds in San Diego County occupied by COVID-19 patients, nearly 40% of the total.
The number of COVID-19 patients in San Diego County hospitals has increased significantly over the past month. There were 297 hospitalized on November 3. The 791 is also more than double the previous peak in mid-July.
Of the more than 88,000 cases recorded in the county since the start of the pandemic, 4,806 – or 5.5% – required hospitalization and 1,061 patients – 1.2% – had to be admitted to a care unit intensive.
The total number of people hospitalized for any reason in the county is 4,587 – fairly consistent with the past few months – but the percentage of COVID-19 patients in area hospitals has risen from 6.7% ago. one month at 17.2% Friday.
