San Francisco 49ers list of 2021 NFL draft picks

The NFL announced compensatory draft picks on Wednesday, which finalized the 49ers’ available selections for this year’s draft.

While there was a bit of confusion over how many comp picks the 49ers received, they ended up with the expected two, giving them 10 as the league’s new year approached.

That’s a far cry from the limited capital that San Francisco was outfitted with last year when they found themselves with just five players in the seven-round draft. The 10 caps will give them the opportunity to either add a large number of cost-controlled players to help rebuild their roster, or give them a chance to move up and down the board on draft day.

Here’s the updated list of the 49ers’ picks:

Round 1, choice 12
2nd round, choice 43
Round 3, Pick 102 (compensatory)
Round 4, choice 117
Round 5, choice 155
Round 5, Pick 172 (via New Orleans)
Round 5, Pick 180 (Compensatory)
Round 6, choice 193
Round 7, Pick 229 (via New York Jets)
Day 7, pick 239

Besides the number of choices, there is one thing that stands out: where those choices are. The 49ers have four top 150 picks, but only two top 100 picks after they traded their third round pick to Washington last year for Trent Williams.

With a heavy draft back-end, don’t be surprised if San Francisco uses some of these picks to climb multiple times in order to add more premium talent. This is assuming they end up wearing all 10 choices in the draft. With plenty of rumors about possible trades, the 49ers may end up with a different-looking war chest by the time the draft begins.
