San Francisco Giants Option Steven Duggar

Good morning and have a nice Sunday.

The San Francisco Giants switched teams on Saturday, ahead of their game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Outfielder Steven Duggar has been selected for AAA Sacramento, while RHP Zack Littell has been recalled.

It’s a tough break for Duggar, who is having a brilliant breakthrough season. But Brandon Belt’s return pushed LaMonte Wade Jr. back into the outfield, making Duggar the fourth left-handed outfielder on the depths board, behind Wade, Mike Yastrzemski and Alex Dickerson.

Add to that the arrival of Kris Bryant, an everyday player who can handle all three outfield spots, and it was becoming difficult for Duggar to find playing time. Additionally, the Giants had played back-to-back games of 10 innings and participated in a match in the bullpen on Saturday.

So Duggar falls prey to the numbers game. But it seems likely that he will return at some point.

In other news, according to the Giants tweet, LHP Conor Menez authorized the waivers and was outright ceded to AAA. Personally, I had no idea the Giants had a player named Conor Menez. I wonder if he’s related to Conner Menez, who the Giants picked on Wednesday to free up a spot on Tommy La Stella’s 40-man roster.
