SAN JOSE, Calif .– The San Jose Sharks acquired goaltender Adin Hill from the Arizona Coyotes just before the NHL roster was frozen for the Seattle expansion draft.
The Coyotes sent Hill and a seventh-round pick in 2022 to the Sharks for 23-year-old goaltender Josef Korenar and a second-round player in 2022. It was completed before and announced after the trade freeze, which began on Saturday.
Arizona also acquired forward Andrew Ladd and three future New York draft picks, giving the Islanders a salary cap space.
The Coyotes traded Hill because they couldn’t protect 25-year-old and starter Darcy Kuemper from the Kraken.
Hill is a restricted free agent with 49 games of NHL experience.
“Adin is an extremely competitive and athletic goaltender and has played a significant number of professional hockey games despite being only 25 years old,” said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson. “We were impressed with the trajectory of his game, especially his ability to make saves on high risk scoring opportunities.
Ladd, 35, has 249 goals and 289 assists in 950 career NHL games with Carolina, Chicago, Atlanta / Winnipeg, Vegas and the Islanders. The Coyotes also received a second-round draft pick in 2021, a second-round conditional pick in 2022, and a third-round conditional pick in 2023.
The protected lists for the extension draft were expected Saturday afternoon, and Seattle announces its picks on Wednesday.
