As COVID-19 cases increase in the Bay Area, the state says Santa Clara and Napa counties could be reduced to a more restrictive level as early as next week.

“It’s disappointing, but it’s not surprising,” Holder said. “We’ve kind of seen it coming. We’ve been monitoring trends for the past week or two. The surrounding counties are starting to shut us down. We just need to be ready for the next step, whatever it is.”
Santa Clara County recently saw an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, with 358 reported on Sunday. Hospitalizations are also on the rise.
Health officials also say more of the newly reported cases are in East San Jose and Gilroy.
To help slow the spread, the county has stepped up its response to public complaints about companies violating COVID-19 health orders.
Most businesses get warnings, fix the problem within days, and avoid fines.
But if they don’t, there are other options. For example, the county fined the Calvary Chapel in San Jose more than $ 350,000 because the church continued to violate health ordinances.
“In cases like super-spreader events where there just isn’t room for that air to happen, we take it very seriously,” said Beatrice Santiago, head of the county’s compliance unit. of Santa Clara. “These may be zero grace periods, so an automatic fine will be imposed.”
The county even went to court for a temporary restraining order to prevent the church from holding major services inside.
