In an effort to improve traffic flow at a key intersection in Stanford Research Park, Santa Clara County is moving forward with a series of improvements, including a new left turn lane, on Page Mill Road and Hanover Street.
The project, which is largely funded by Measure B, the county’s 2016 transportation tax, received a boost on August 17, when the county’s supervisory board unanimously approved a $ 1 million contract with Redgwick Construction to begin work.
In addition to creating a new westerly left turn lane on Page Mill, the project includes “rephasing” of traffic lights to improve traffic flow, installing ramps at pedestrian crossings in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and improving the push buttons to make them contactless and accessible to the blind.
Once the contract is approved, the four-month project is expected to start in October, according to the county’s announcement.
Supervisor Joe Simitian, whose district includes Palo Alto, said in a statement that the project is “designed to significantly relieve traffic jams for people commuting to work, home or school.”
