Sarah Ferguson has said she can relate to Meghan Markle, who has been the target of tabloids after marrying the British royal family.
The former American actress became the Duchess of Sussex when she said “yes” to Prince Harry, the Duchess of York’s nephew, in 2018. Several decades earlier, Ferguson had married Prince Andrew, one of the son of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1986. This union lasted until 1996.
After facing intense media scrutiny, the Duke and Duchess announced in 2020 that they were stepping down as senior members of the British Royal Family.
“I believe that everyone has a right to their own voice and that there should be no judgment on race, creed, color or any other denomination,” the 61-year-old told Good Morning on Friday. America on how the press treated Markle, 39.

“Personally, I would never be able to judge another one, so I’m just not like that,” Ferguson explained. “I wish Harry and Meghan the best of luck and I know that [the late Princess] Diana would be so proud of her sons and their wives. “
Ferguson was a close friend of Diana, Harry’s mother and late sister-in-law. As the two were pitted against each other by the media, Ferguson called Diana a “best friend.”
Diana died in 1997 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Paris at the age of 36.
“She’s in my heart,” Ferguson told the outlet, adding that she called Diana her “laughing friend.”

“I’ve always said that it doesn’t matter if you get the love back or you don’t get the love back or whether she’s there or she isn’t there, you can love anyway and keep the cuteness.” , she said. “I loved Diana and will always love her even if she’s not there in person. Ferguson, now a grandmother, wonders what Diana would have looked like with her own grandchildren. Her two sons have five children between them.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departures from royal duties began in 2020 over what they described as British media intrusions and racist attitudes towards the former ‘Suits’ star. The family now resides in the coastal town of Montecito, California.

After stepping down from royal duties, they gave Oprah Winfrey an explosive TV interview in March, in which the couple described painful comments about the color of their son Archie’s skin before he was born. Markle spoke of the intense isolation she felt within the royal family that led her to consider suicide.
Buckingham Palace said the couple’s allegations of racism were “concerning” and would be dealt with in private.
On June 4, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The child is eighth to the British throne.
The name honors both Harry’s grandmother, the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet, and his late mother.
