Saturn: This guy captured a picture of Saturn & # 39; touching & # 39; the moon with his smartphone and a telescope

This common event, called occultation, is easy to miss. But this photographer from South Africa managed to capture him at the perfect moment.

Grant Petersen in Johannesburg shared this beautiful photo on Twitter last month, he captured one by tying his smartphone to his telescope. "It was spectacular," he says in the tweet. "I'm smiling from one ear to the other, nothing will get me out of this high astronomy."

The image captured by Petersen actually comes from a combination of photos taken from a five-second video. He captured the images with the help of a Samsung Galaxy S8 in conjunction with a domestic astronomy telescope.

Petersen is a passionate amateur astrophotographer, himself inspired by those who preceded him. And he is always looking for the next big astronomical event, whether it 's about a passing comet, flying asteroids or whatever.

In fact, he hardly got the shot. Johannesburg was hit by the rain the previous night, darkening the sky just hours before the occultation. Fortunately for him though, he cleared up in time for him to capture the breathtaking photo

"When an event like this happens and everything goes as planned, and [we] can avoid problems like weather, equipment breakdowns or human errors, it's a great achievement, "he said.
