US researchers have reported that they have successfully developed new type 2 drugs that do not cause side effects such as those caused by existing drugs, including nausea and vomiting.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse in the United States and presented their findings Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Catalyst Behavioral Society, to be held from 17 July 21st in Florida.

The researchers explained that current diabetes medications often lead to many worrisome side effects, mainly nausea and vomiting, which reduces the effects of patients' quality of life.

They added that all drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of diabetes caused nausea and vomiting between 20% and 50% of patients.

To overcome this problem, the team succeeded in modifying the active compound in existing drugs, a compound called exendin-4, by binding each molecule to vitamin B12 and producing a less absorbing compound in areas of the brain that cause nausea and vomiting.

The team tested the new drug on animals with type 2 diabetes and found it effective in reducing hyperglycemia, such as conventional drugs, but without causing any symptoms. Side effects.

Researchers also found that animals taking the new drug had only 9% of the side effects of diabetes medications, nausea and vomiting, compared to 90% of those taking traditional medications.

According to the World Health Organization, about 90% of the world's diabetes cases are Type II, mainly due to hyperactivity and physical inactivity, which can increase risk over time. Heart disease, blindness, neurology and kidney failure

In contrast, type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system in the body destroys the cells that control blood sugar levels, most of which are at home. the children.
