Smoking doubles the heart rhythm disorder

A recent study confirms that high daily smoking rates in people double the possibility of atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder.
The study was prepared at Imperial College London, in collaboration with Norwegian researchers, and published in the latest issue of the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.

The team reviewed the results of 29 studies previously conducted in Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan.

The team monitored the number of cigarettes smoked by participants and their relationship with atrial fibrillation and found that smoking 5 cigarettes per day increased the risk of atrial fibrillation by 9% and reached 17% of those smoking 10 cigarettes a day and 25% of those smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Atrial fibrillation rates increased to 32% among those who smoked 32 cigarettes a day, and increased compared to 45% of those who smoked 29 cigarettes a day, compared to those who did not smoke.

The researchers found that every 10 years a smoker was associated with an increased risk of 16% atrial fibrillation.
