Patients at the Lakewood Nursing Center were treated after a scabies outbreak at the beginning of the month.
The Fountain View Care Center administration informed the Océan County Department of Health on February 7 that many of its residents had scabies, which were characterized by intense itching and a rash that looked like a pimple.
Jennifer Crawford, Communicable Disease Supervisor of the County Health Department, could not tell immediately how many people were infected, but was confined to those directly associated with the Fountain View Care Center.
The facilities of Route 9 were properly decontaminated and officials were in regular contact with the County Health Department.
"The last update was from yesterday and we are sure everything is fine," Crawford said.
