A 3-year-old Scottish roe deer named Claire won the 2020 National Dog Show on Thursday – becoming the first of her breed to win the coveted title.
The smiling dog won the highest honor with its owner, Angela Lloyd, by his side – beating seven finalists and a total of 538 entries.
Dog lovers quickly took to social media to cheer on the disheveled-haired great underdog.

The host of the annual Thanksgiving Day competition, President of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, Wayne Ferguson, said it was the first time in 135 years of history that the breed has emerged as a star.
“Scottish fallow deer are generally not in the limelight,” Ferguson told NJ Advance Media, adding that they were “one of the oldest breeds that the American Kennel Club has recognized”.
But despite being the first of her breed to win the Best in Show award at the National Dog Show, Claire comes from a long line of champions. His grandmother, Hickory, won the Best Show Award at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2011. His mother, Chelsea, also won the Best Reserve in Show award at the National Dog Competition 2015.
“Claire has so many wonderful traits,” Lloyd said after picking up the award. “She embodies the same qualities [as Hickory and Chelsea]. She looks a lot like her grandmother, especially in the eyes.
The dog show has been hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia every year since 1933. But this year the show has been reduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with only handlers, dog owners and staff authorized to attend. assist.
