That could never happen, right? The Seattle Seahawks would never do the unthinkable and make a deal to trade All-Pro quarterback Russell Wilson, or at least that’s the most logical take to have right now. It’s not impossible though, as the NFL has proven time and time again in similar situations, and there are teams shooting GM John Schneider to see if they can get something to shake up – by the CBS Sports insider Jason La Canfora.
In addition, La Canfora note the frustration within Wilson’s camp, fueled by a perpetual shrug from the organization when it comes to improving its offensive line, which makes sense considering he was sacked 394 times in his nine seasons in the NFL for a total loss of 2,572 yards. The team’s most recent failure at the hands of a Los Angeles Rams defense who beat, bruised and intimidated Wilson for four quarters over Super Wild-Card weekend, en route to send them off the playoffs and prepare the ground for Wilson to ask for more input into the rostering equation in the future.
In a question period on “The Dan Patrick show“Tuesday after Super Bowl LV, he admitted it, and in a neutral tone.
“I want to be involved,” Wilson said. “At the end of the day, it’s your legacy, the legacy of your team.… It helps to get more involved. This dialogue should take place more often. ”
This is what it looks like when a franchise quarterback refuses to pull his punches, and Wilson has every right to do so if he wants to extend his NFL career. For while he’s proven to be enduring as he nears his decade of career, the Seahawks can’t continue to use his breakout as a way to overlook his porous line. Inevitably, it could come back and bite them both from the back, but it would hurt Wilson more than a team that could move forward and try to find another QB1 on the line – if injuries started to surface in the future. It’s a story already seen throughout the league, and Wilson doesn’t want to be another uplifting tale that could have been avoided if only the Seahawks allowed him a voice in team building.
The question now is, are they going?
Wilson’s comments, while likely unintentional, will fuel recent speculation about a possible (albeit unlikely) trade. And as for that, he won’t be speculating on his future in Seattle himself. He focuses on what he can control while seeking more control, and from there, he’ll drop the tokens where they can.
“I don’t know if I am available [for trade] or not, “he said. “That’s a Seahawks question.”
Yes, yes, and the most important to which they had to answer for a very long time but, for his part, he would like to stay put.
“I hope I play in Seattle forever. “
