The Seattle Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to five games, but Jordan Morris was injured in a 2-1 win over Orlando City SC on Wednesday night at CenturyLink Field.

In his first start since returning from injury, Raul Ruidiaz scored his first goal in two months to give the Sounders an advantage after 19 minutes. Brad Smith made a quick double with Harry Shipp before sending a low ball over the face of the goal that Ruidiaz scored for his third goal of the season.

Morris had a golden chance to double the lead of the Sounders just before half-time when he was hooked on a Smith service, but his downhill header was bouncing off the crossbar.

Morris would leave the game five minutes into the second half, a disturbing moment for the Sounders fans, who appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Ruidiaz almost scored his second goal at the hour of play, getting a smooth pass from Cristian Roldan. But Orlando City SC goaltender Greg Ranjitsingh did well to get out of his line to catch the Peruvian ball after a heavy first strike.

Handwalla Bwana, who replaced Morris, doubled the Sounders' advantage by hitting a Nico Lodeiro center with his shin in the 68th minute. The goal was maintained following a long video review of a possible handball of Lodeiro during the accumulation.

After missing an unfortunate opportunity, Chris Mueller brought the Lions closer to a goal in the 75th minute, taking advantage over Roldan before scoring for the third goal of the season.

Three things

  • THE GREAT IMAGE: It turned out that the match was tighter than expected, but the Sounders still seemed to have control of the match. They win their second game in a row to move within two points of first place, LAFC, in the West, while the Lions drop their third game in a row and extend their winless streak to four games.
  • MOMENT OF THE GAME: Sounders fans will be pleased that Ruidiaz, who is back from injury, finds the back of the net, but certainly worries Morris to recover after a sprint while the Sounders face another injury apparent tendon.
  • MAN OF THE GAMESmith was a monster on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he got three clears and two tackles, while he managed 14 assists in the last third, two successful centers and a quarter-high quality assist of 86 minutes.
