Supporters for the former governor have praised the work she has done on jobs and clean energy in the state of Michigan.
“I saw how she handled the tough challenges she faced during the Great Recession when the auto industry bottomed out in her state,” Sen said. However, some Republicans remain skeptical of it and have expressed concerns about the impact of the Biden administration’s program on the fossil fuel industry.

Both Biden and Granholm have stressed that they want the clean energy transition to create new jobs in various sectors of the economy.
The agency that Granholm is about to run has a large portfolio that includes the country’s stockpile of nuclear weapons. At his January hearing, Granholm said his priorities would be to ensure the national security of the United States and to support scientific work in national laboratories that would extend to work on climate change.
Pressed by Republicans on fossil fuels, Granholm said it was a “good thing” that the United States was the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas, and expressed support for capture technology and carbon storage systems still in development to produce these fuels in a cleaner manner.
Announcing Granholm as her nominee, Biden touted her record on clean energy and jobs since being governor of Michigan.
“Throughout her career, she has worked with states, cities, businesses and unions to promote [a] clean energy future, ”Biden said in December.
The Senate has worked to confirm Biden’s candidates, although many have yet to receive a vote.
