Wait until 75% of vaccines have already gone to 10 countries – Duterte

MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos will just have to wait for COVID-19 vaccines as most of them have already been purchased, President Rodrigo Duterte said in a pre-recorded speech broadcast Wednesday.

“Seventy-five percent of all vaccines have been procured by 10 countries. Only 10, the other 130 [countries] nothing to see. So let’s wait, ”Duterte said, speaking partly in Filipino. “I’m not trying to pontificate here. Until then, we had better follow the government.

The government plans to start vaccinations against Covid-19 as soon as the Sinovac vaccines – of which 600,000 doses have been donated by the Chinese government – arrive.

In the meantime, Duterte advised Filipinos to wear masks because it could save them “a lot of trouble and expense.”

He also reiterated his order to local governments regarding face masks, saying, “To provincial, municipal and municipal governments, I ask you to buy it and give it away for free.”

Despite his advice, Duterte admitted that he himself was not used to wearing a face mask.

“I have been criticized. You are right to say that “this Duterte continues to speak but does not follow [his advice]. You are correct that I do not wear a mask. You are right, ”he said.

“I’m not a wearer used to wearing this. This is why I am deleting it. I run the risk of, I might be gone quickly. Anyway, there is a vice-president who will follow, ”he added.

Since parts of the country have been placed under community quarantine, the government is requiring everyone to wear masks and face shields in public spaces.
