Poachers devoured by lions in South Africa

The hunters entered the Sibuya reservation near the town of Kenton-on-Sea early Monday morning and were found dismembered the next morning.

A shotgun with silencer, a long ax and cutters, equipment generally used by poachers, were found on the scene.

They found themselves in the middle of a group of lions, a large group apparently, so they did not have a lot of time to react.

"We do not know exactly how much they were, there is not much left," continued Nick Fox. "We found clothes for three people.

Several lions had to be reassured before the remains could be recovered, Fox added.

Police patrolled the area in case one of the suspected poachers survived.

Horn rhinoceros

This year alone, nine rhinos were killed by poachers in the Eastern Cape Province, where the reserve is located.

There has been an increase in poaching in Africa in recent years, in order to fuel the growing demand for rhinoceros horn in parts of Asia

In China, Vietnam, and elsewhere, rhinoceros horn is believed to possess aphrodisiac qualities.

5000 remains black rhinoceros specimens on the African continent, of which nearly 1900 are found in South Africa. The country is also home to some 20,000 white rhinos, 80% of the world's population.
