Meeting in Kinshasa on voting machines and political prisoners

The lack of a consensus on voting machines, the non-release of political and opinion prisoners, and the issue of the 16% of enlisted people without fingerprints are among the issues at the heart of the tripartite government meeting – National Council monitoring the agreement (CNSA) – Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), whose work takes place from July 5 to July 7 in Kinshasa.
        

In his inaugural address, CNSA President Joseph Olengankoy also listed among the issues to be debated the problem of the bond paid in 2015 by provincial election candidates who have never been held since.

Also on the agenda are the questions of compensation for the victims of the October 2016 political demonstrations and the repatriation of the remains of the opponent Etienne Tshisekedi who died on 1 February 2017 in Belgium

The tripartite set up three commissions to examine all these questions with a view to making proposals at the close of business scheduled for Saturday, July 7.

These works are being held while the CENI recalls that there will be no extension of the application process for the provincial deputation, which will, in principle, end on Sunday, July 8.
