Overflows in India
In India, where the application has more than 200 million users, the spread of rumors kidnappings resulted in the deaths of five people in early July. This measure comes in addition to a broader scheme in this country. On July 10, 2018, WhatsApp had purchased an entire page in several Indian dailies to explain to residents how to differentiate between true and false information.
More widely, another update was released at the end of June, to allow administrators discussion groups to prevent other members from publishing content. A system for detecting fraudulent links is also under study.
