Cotonou is since yesterday, the attractive pole of the world economy. It hosts from 12 to 14 July 2018, the African conference of the Society of Econometrics. The work launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Aurélien Agbénonci, takes place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Cotonou.
The objective of the conference is to promote the use of mathematics and statistical tools, to better understand economic trends in order to formulate more appropriate policies. These global trends result from several psychological, historical and political factors. In addition to the fundamentals of saving, technological progress, and population growth, factors such as attitudes to risk and trust, electoral responsibility and the strengthening of citizens' responsibility are among our main concerns. days seen as engines of growth and prosperity. A combination of the best analytical and quantitative tools is therefore essential to understanding these new modes of behavior, often related to economic outcomes or the judicious allocation of resources. Hence the importance of the meeting, according to Léonard Wantchékon, Professor of Economics and Political Science in Princeton (Usa), to promote the use of mathematics and statistics to develop models of development. taking into account realities on the ground, with increasingly advanced analytical tools. And for the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Aurélien Agbénonci, the Beninese government has decided to base its economy on scientific data, to make rational choices to get the population out of misery. He therefore expressed his gratitude to the African Society of Econometrics, which chose Benin to host the conference. Aurélien Agbénonci finished his remarks, exhorting the participants to fruitful exchanges, to lead to quality results. Panels on topics such as Financial Inclusion, Women and Development, Analysis of Dynamics in Economics, Financing Infrastructure, Tourism, How to Use Mathematics to Facilitate Economic and Social Development, and Keynote Addresses with distinguished guests, like 2007 Nobel Prize winner Roger Myerson, will complete the works.
