Key dates of Senegalese-Chinese relations

Dakar, July 20 (APS) – The Senegalese News Agency recalls the landmark dates for the evolution of relations between the People's Republic of China and Senegal, during the 48-hour state visit Chinese President Xi Jinping is starting from Saturday.

– 1971: beginning of bilateral relations between China and Senegal

– 1974: visit of President Léopold Sédar Senghor to China

– October 31, 1985: inauguration of the Stadium Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, offered in Senegal by the People's Republic of China

– 1996: Rupture of diplomatic relations between Dakar and Beijing, after Dakar, under the teaching of Abdou Diouf, recognized the sovereignty of Taiwan, which Beijing regards as part of its territory.

– October 25, 2005: China and Senegal announce the resumption of their diplomatic relations, Senegal having broken ties with Taiwan, under the aegis of President Abdoulaye Wade.
