General Diendéré denied Monday at the trial to have sponsored, neither planned nor organized nor executed the coup d'état of 16 September 2015 in Burkina Faso
Accused of attacking state security, betrayal and murder, during the events that left 14 dead and 270 wounded, he admitted only having "assumed a given situation".
General Diendéré said that he was forced to face things even though he was not associated because the hierarchy had refused to assume this situation.
For him, if these events happened, it is because there was a previous situation that would have pushed elements of the former Presidential Security Regiment (RSP) to react as well.
If we had to let the officers and NCOs manage, he said, it was not going to be a good thing.
As a reminder, Gilbert Diendéré, born in 1960 or 1961, is a general of the army of Burkina Faso and statesman, former chief of staff of the former President Blaise Campaore.
